The Rilliet Report - April 2017

The Rilliet Report - SheldonRilliet.com

THE BUZZ

Good news is here. The stock market continues to rise, consumer confidence is up, and hiring is spurring significant interest in buying.

Pending home sales posted a strong rebound per March stats. February sales roared to the highest level in nearly a year and the second highest level in more than a decade according to the National Association of Realtors.

Lawrence Yun, chief economist for NAR, reports, "Buyers came back in force. The expectation from many buyers that delaying their home search may mean paying a higher interest rate later this year drives sales too." Yun expects activity to fluctuate, however, due to the lack of supply of homes on the market.

Is it time to start looking for a new home? Is it time to think of selling as the market is strong? Let's talk.

JUST ASK

Green is the color of the year. Pantone announced "greenery" is a refreshing and revitalizing shade - symbolic of new beginnings. Greenery is a yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew. A good way to add pops of green is with painted accent furniture, area rugs, art, throw pillows, and plants. Or go bold and paint a wall.

I hope you have fun and go green in 2017.

MY TOWN

Q: How can I detox the air in my home?

A: Rodale's Organic Life, www.rodalesorganiclife.com, is a great resource for healthy homes and living. Some tips on a healthy home include the following:

  • Test your house for asbestos: order a DIY testing kit, such as this one.
  • Reduce dust in your home - get a vacuum with a HEPA filter, replace curtains with shades and carpets with wood or tile flooring.
  • Use your fan every time you cook to capture emissions and decrease your exposure to pollutants.
  • Ditch most home air fresheners as they contain chemicals like phthalates, some of which are carcinogenic.
  • The EPS's Safer Choice Website offers a list of safe, eco-friendly solutions.

FYI

Preparing your home to sell can feel like a daunting project. But focusing on several things can really make a difference. As your real estate agent, I would walk you through this process, often bringing in vendors I use on a regular basis. Here are some ideas to consider from the Property Brothers (HGTV) Jonathan and Drew.

How to prep your home to get ready to sell:
  • Kitchen: paint your cabinets or use pre-fab cabinets
  • Redo your counter tops: stone, quartz, wood
  • Declutter: remove heavy or ornate drapes, remove pictures
  • Landscaping: shape up landscaping, add some color
  • Neutral: Go neutral, not bold but not boring with new paint
  • Think fresh, crisp and clean.
If you're thinking of selling, I'd be happy to meet with you and talk home prep.
